West Bengal, 18 May (H.S.): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday summoned former South Dum Dum Municipality chairman Pachu Roy for questioning in connection with the municipal recruitment corruption case.

Roy was asked to appear at the ED office located at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake, where he arrived in the morning. According to sources, investigators are questioning him regarding alleged illegal appointments made in the municipality.

Sources further said that Roy may also be confronted with former state minister Sujit Bose, who was recently arrested by the ED in the same case and is currently in the agency’s custody.

During the investigation into the recruitment process in South Dum Dum Municipality, Sujit Bose’s name had allegedly surfaced. The ED claims that recommendations for nearly 150 candidates were made to secure illegal jobs in the municipality. The central agency has alleged that undue benefits were received in exchange for these recommendations.

Notably, Sujit Bose was also summoned to the CGO Complex for questioning last Monday. After nearly 10 and a half hours of interrogation, ED officials arrested him. A court later sent him to 10 days of ED custody.

Meanwhile, Pachu Roy’s name has also appeared in the chargesheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the municipal recruitment scam. The ED had earlier summoned him multiple times in connection with the probe, and he had appeared before investigators on previous occasions as well.

However, Roy has denied all allegations in the past. He claimed that he had not taken money from anyone and alleged that he was being called repeatedly only to harass him.
