New Delhi, May 18 (H.S.): A grand cultural programme was organized at the Delhi Secretariat on Monday to mark Sikkim Day. On the occasion, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta extended her greetings to the people of Sikkim and the nation.

The event featured captivating performances of Sikkim’s traditional folk dances, including Singhi Chaam, Khampa, Tamang Selo, and Mask Dance, which mesmerized the audience. Through these performances, artists paid tribute to nature and the divine.

A total of 10 artists participated in the musical and cultural presentations, delivering vibrant performances that highlighted the rich heritage of Sikkim.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that Sikkim is an extraordinary example of natural beauty, environmental conservation, and cultural diversity. Nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, the state became India’s first fully organic state by completely adopting organic farming practices, thereby providing a new direction to the country in the field of environmental protection.

She added that Sikkim has consistently conveyed the message of peace, development, and national unity.

The Chief Minister further said that Sikkim’s contributions in areas such as education, tourism, environmental conservation, organic agriculture, and national security are highly inspiring.

Kapil Mishra, Delhi’s Minister for Art, Culture and Languages, said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Ek Bharat–Shreshtha Bharat” (One India, Great India), the Delhi Government has been organizing celebrations of state foundation days and festivals from across the country.

He stated that such events promote India’s diverse cultural identity and help familiarize the younger generation with the nation’s rich traditions.
