Kolkata, 18 May (H.S.) : Commuters faced significant inconvenience on Kolkata Metro’s Blue Line on Monday morning as delays in train services during office hours led to overcrowding at several stations.
According to reports, metro services on the Tollygunge–Shahid Khudiram section remained suspended throughout Sunday due to maintenance work. However, even on Monday morning, passengers complained that trains on the same stretch were running behind schedule.
Several commuters also alleged delays in metro services operating from Noapara to Shahid Khudiram. The disruption during peak office hours resulted in heavy crowds across multiple stations, while metro rakes were packed beyond normal capacity.
Passengers claimed that the excessive crowd pressure at some stations made it difficult for metro doors to close properly. According to metro authorities, a minor delay in turning around a metro rake at Shahid Khudiram station briefly affected operations on the Blue Line.
Metro officials, however, maintained that services have now returned to normal and that there is no major operational issue at present.
Despite the assurance from the authorities, commuters said that even a slight delay during office hours leads to severe congestion at stations, making it difficult for many passengers to board the trains.
