
Asansol, 18 May (H.S.): A civic volunteer attached to the Kulti Traffic Guard was killed in a tragic road accident at the Duburdihi checkpost on National Highway-19 under the Kulti police station area along the West Bengal–Jharkhand border.
The deceased has been identified as Ramen Saha (40). The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the area.
According to police and local sources, Ramen Saha was on traffic signal duty at the Duburdihi checkpost on Sunday night when a speeding pickup van coming from the Jharkhand side allegedly lost control and rammed into him. The impact of the collision was so severe that he collapsed on the road on the spot.
Police personnel and fellow civic volunteers present at the scene immediately rushed the critically injured Ramen Saha to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Following the accident, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene. Kulti Police has registered a case against the unidentified vehicle and launched a search operation to trace the accused driver.
