Kolkata, 17 May (H.S.):
Former West Bengal minister and three-time Trinamool Congress MLA Giasuddin Mollah has lodged a police complaint against Abhishek Banerjee and police officer Mithun Kumar Dey, alleging intimidation and misuse of administrative power.
Confirming the complaint on Sunday, Mollah said he had remained silent for a long time out of fear.
He alleged that he was afraid of “his own party workers” and administrative action during the previous regime, but now had confidence in the new administration led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
Mollah represented the Magrahat Paschim Assembly constituency continuously from 2011 to 2026. However, he was denied a ticket in the recent Assembly elections and was replaced by Shamim Ahmed Mollah.
According to the former MLA, then sub-divisional police officer Mithun Kumar Dey allegedly carried out punitive action against certain TMC workers in the area.
Mollah claimed that a party worker was assaulted inside a police station and subjected to mental and physical harassment.
He further alleged that when he protested against the incident, the police officer misbehaved with him and attempted to attack him with a baton.
Mollah said he had informed former chief minister Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee about the matter, but no action was taken.
He alleged that Abhishek Banerjee was fully aware of the incidents and that the police officer acted under his instructions.
Notably, Mithun Kumar Dey was recently removed from election-related duties by the Election Commission before the polling process.
The complaint comes amid growing political tensions in the state. Recently, an FIR was also lodged against Abhishek Banerjee at Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station over allegations of threatening Union Home Minister Amit Shah and inciting violence ahead of the elections.
The Trinamool Congress has dismissed the allegations as political vendetta and claimed that its leaders were being targeted under the changed political circumstances in the state.
