Mumbai.
16 May (HS): Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange has threatened to
launch agitation from May 30, alleging inaction by the State Government on the
demands of the Maratha community. The major demand was to issue ‘Kunbi’
community certificate to them which is included in the OBC category.
Jarange on
Saturday addressed a press conference at Antarwali Sarati to announce his indefinite
hunger strike. This time the agitation will not be withdrawn only on assurances
by the Government. The decision is necessary as admission procedures for
various courses will start in June, and the children from Maratha community
will be deprived of the benefits.
He
appealed to the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to take positive action for
issuing caste certificates to Marathas, who have elected you, Jarange also
reminded Fadnavis of his assurance to work out solutions on the demand of the
Maratha community. He also quoted the then Chief Minister Eknath Shinde of finding
documents of 58 lakh Marathas belonging to Kunbi caste, and appealed to issue
them certificates at the earliest.
