Golaghat (Assam), 16 May (HS): Morning classes have not begun at a primary school in Assam’s Numaligarh after a wild elephant strayed into the campus, leaving behind shattered furniture, frightened villagers and anxious parents.
The elephant reportedly entered the premises of 4 No. Rangbang LP School during the early hours on Saturday and stormed into the school office, damaging furniture and other materials kept inside. Residents said the animal moved around the area for some time, triggering panic among nearby households.
By the time daylight spread across the village, fear had already reached the families of schoolchildren. Many parents chose not to send their children to school, worried that the elephant could return at any moment.
Locals said incidents of elephant movement have become increasingly frequent in the Numaligarh region, disrupting normal life and keeping villagers on edge. Residents have appealed to the forest department to take immediate preventive measures before the situation leads to a serious tragedy.
