
Hooghly, 09 April (H.S.): Amid the ongoing nomination process for the West Bengal Assembly elections, Dipanjan Chakraborty has filed his nomination as the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Uttarpara Assembly constituency. His affidavit, submitted along with the nomination papers, reveals details of his income, assets, and background.
According to the affidavit, Chakraborty, around 60 years old, is a retired central government employee. His primary sources of income are pension and interest earnings. He has consistently filed income tax returns over the past five years, with his income for 2024–25 reported at over ₹34 lakh.
In terms of assets, Chakraborty has declared movable assets worth approximately ₹26.38 lakh. His wife, Rupakshi Ramchandra Desai, holds movable assets exceeding ₹1.34 crore, including bank deposits, fixed deposits, insurance policies, and jewellery. The couple also owns two four-wheeler vehicles with a combined estimated value of around ₹22 lakh.
Under immovable assets, Chakraborty owns a residential house in Kalyani, located in Nadia district, with an estimated market value of about ₹55 lakh. The property is inherited. He has not declared any agricultural or commercial property.
Importantly, the affidavit states that there are no pending criminal cases against Chakraborty, nor has he been convicted in any case. He also has no outstanding loans, government dues, or income tax liabilities.
On the educational front, Chakraborty holds a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree from Kalyani University.
Political observers believe that with a clean image and no criminal record, Chakraborty could make the contest in Uttarpara more competitive.
