New Delhi, 08 April (H.S.):
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) rates for phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilizers during the Kharif 2026 season (April 1 to September 30). The allocation totals approximately ₹41,533.81 crore—a ₹4,317.66 crore increase from Kharif 2025's ₹37,216.15 crore.
This ensures 28 P&K grades, including DAP and NPKS, reach farmers at subsidized, affordable prices amid fluctuating global input costs like urea, DAP, MOP, and sulphur.
Subsidies stabilize supply, rationalizing support based on international trends to maintain reasonable rates. Fertilizer manufacturers/importers receive payments per notified rates under the NBS scheme (effective since April 2010), bolstering farmer access during the monsoon sowing season.
