New Delhi, 08 April (H.S.):

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, greenlit the ambitious Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project—a 41 km North-South corridor from Prahladpura to Todi Mod with 36 stations—at a total cost of ₹13,037.66 crore.

Implemented by Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited (RMRCL), a 50:50 joint venture between the Governments of India and Rajasthan, the line connects key hubs like Sitapura Industrial Area, Jaipur International Airport (with underground stations), VKIA, Tonk Road, SMS Hospital, Stadium, Ambabari, and Vidyadhar Nagar. It integrates seamlessly with the operational 11.64 km Phase-1 East-West line via interchanges and feeders.

Phase-1 currently serves ~60,000 daily riders.

Phase-2 promises exponential ridership growth, slashing private vehicle reliance, easing congestion, and cutting emissions in line with Rajasthan TOD Policy-2025, UMTA reforms, and national urban transport goals.

Economic Internal Rate of Return exceeds 14%, affirming viability; funding blends equity, debt, and multilateral loans per Metro Rail Policy 2017. Targeting September 2031 completion, it advances Viksit Bharat and Viksit Rajasthan visions.
