Jorhat (Assam), 07 April (HS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday asserted that the BJP-led alliance is poised to “clean sweep” Upper Assam and secure between 95 to 100 seats in the upcoming Assembly elections. He made these remarks on the final day of campaigning while addressing an election rally in Teok.
The Chief Minister alleged a “dangerous conspiracy” by Akhil Gogoi to bring “Miya-Muslims” from Lower Assam to Upper Assam with the intent of creating a future vote bank. Drawing a historical parallel, Sarma claimed that a similar strategy had been adopted during the tenure of former President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, accusing Gogoi of attempting to replicate such tactics for political gain.
He further alleged that the move was not aimed at employment generation but was purely a calculated attempt to build a vote bank, leveling serious charges against Gogoi. Sarma also questioned Gogoi over his criticism of two-time MLA Kushal Duwari contesting from Sivasagar, asking whether the latter had suddenly become a “bad person” for entering the electoral fray.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also took aim at Congress leader Pawan Khera, alleging that he fled from Delhi to Hyderabad fearing arrest. Sarma claimed that an Assam Police team had visited Khera’s residence in Delhi earlier in the day but could not locate him.
Additionally, Sarma accused Khera of involvement in a passport-related fraud case concerning his wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, further intensifying the political rhetoric on the last day of campaigning.-----------
