Amritsar, April 30 (H.S.): Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted a narcotics smuggling network and arrested one drug smuggler with 6 kg of heroin in his possession. Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said the arrested accused has been identified as Lovepreet Singh, a resident of Vairoval Road in Jandiala Guru, Amritsar. Police have also impounded a silver-coloured Hyundai i10 car bearing registration number PB10-CV-3211, which was being used for drug trafficking.

Sharing details, the DGP revealed that preliminary investigations have indicated that the accused was acting on the directions of a Dubai-based handler, Antarpreet Singh of Sultanwind, who is already involved in multiple narcotics-related cases. Lovepreet Singh was reportedly responsible for procuring large consignments of heroin from different locations and supplying them to various parties as per instructions.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police teams learned that the accused had recently procured a substantial quantity of heroin and was likely to deliver it near Adda Manawala on the Amritsar-Jalandhar GT Road. Swift action was taken, and the police team laid a trap in the area. The accused was apprehended while travelling in his i10 car, and during a search operation, 6 kg of heroin was recovered from the vehicle.

The DGP further stated that investigations are underway to establish both forward and backward linkages in order to dismantle the entire network. A case FIR No. 27 dated April 29, 2026, has been registered under Sections 21, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar.
