AMRITSAR, 30 April (H.S.): Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a cross-border drug and arms smuggling module. Two accused have been arrested, and 4.108 kg of heroin along with four sophisticated pistols have been recovered from their possession.

Gaurav Yadav, Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, identified the arrested individuals as Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh (21), a resident of village Lahuka in Tarn Taran, and Tarsem Singh alias Kairon alias Pehlwan (31), a resident of Mohalla Jaswant Singh Nagar in Tarn Taran, from whom two 9MM Glock pistols (made in Austria), two .30 bore pistols (made in China), and five live cartridges were recovered.

The DGP stated that preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were in direct contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through social media platforms. The consignments of drugs and illegal arms were being delivered using drones from across the border. The accused would retrieve these consignments and distribute them further to different parties.

Sharing operational details, Commissioner of Police Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that during the initial operation, accused Arshdeep Singh was apprehended with 2.6 kg heroin. Based on his interrogation, police teams arrested co-accused Tarsem Singh and recovered an additional 1.5 kg heroin and four pistols from his possession.

Further probe revealed that Tarsem Singh is a notorious criminal with as many as 16 cases registered against him under the NDPS Act, Arms Act, Prison Act, and attempt to murder. He is also linked to gangster Gurpreet Singh alias Krishan Jandiala, who is currently based abroad. Police said that Tarsem was allegedly lured into the network with promises of a fake passport and arrangements for overseas travel.

A case FIR No. 68 dated April 26, 2026, has been registered under Sections 21-B, 21-C, and 29 of the NDPS Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Cantonment, Amritsar. Further investigation is underway to identify other associates and dismantle the entire network.
