Lucknow, April 27 (HS): A 20-member media delegation from Nepal,
visiting India, met with Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana on
Monday. Mahana stated that India and Nepal have had close and cordial relations
since ancient times, which have continued to strengthen along religious,
cultural, and social lines.
The Speaker of the Legislative
Assembly stated that before presenting any topic, it is essential to verify its
complete and truthful information. The current trend of highlighting negativity
due to the competition for TRPs is worrying, whereas the media's responsibility
is to present a balanced and positive perspective in society. Describing the
role of the media as the fourth pillar of democracy, he said that its
responsibility is extremely important, especially for journalists reporting on
Parliament and the Legislative Assembly.
He said that in a democratic
system, both the ruling party and the opposition have equal roles, and the
Speaker is equally accountable to both. He also noted that the Uttar Pradesh
Legislative Assembly has evolved into a fully modern and digitalized structure,
where work is being conducted with transparency and efficiency.
During this period, the
delegation took a detailed tour of the Assembly building, visiting various
sites. Speaker Satish Mahana then provided the delegation with detailed
information regarding the functioning of the legislature, the law-making
process, and democratic values. A 20-member media delegation from Nepal is
currently on a tour of Uttar Pradesh and is participating in various
programmes.
