April 27 (HS): A man has been detained for allegedly engaging in celebratory
gunfire during a ceremony in Kaushambi district, and a licensed gun and
ammunition have been taken from his possession, authorities said Monday. Satyanarayan
Prajapat, Superintendent of Police, stated that a video of the celebratory
gunfire in Jajouli hamlet went viral on social media Sunday. Taking note of the
video, he asked the local police to investigate and take the appropriate
measures. During the inquiry, authorities discovered that the video was filmed
on April 24 during a 'janeu' (holy thread) ceremony for the accused's son,
Gulab Chand, a resident of Jajouli village. According to the officer, the
accused fired into the air during the ceremony.
Police
located and seized the licensed 12-bore rifle used in the shooting, as well as
two empty cartridges and 14 live rounds. A complaint has been filed at the
Paschim Sharira police station under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya
Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act, he stated. Police said the accused was
apprehended and that additional judicial actions are pending.
