Kolkata, 26 April (H.S.): A 25-year-old woman was found dead inside her apartment in the Garia area of South 24 Parganas district on Sunday morning, triggering panic in the locality. The deceased has been identified as Enakshi Das. Her husband, Soumik Das, has been missing since the incident, raising suspicions of murder. The police from Narendrapur Police Station have registered a case and launched an investigation.

According to police sources, Enakshi lived with her husband and their eight-year-old son in a rented flat near Garia railway station. Soumik Das is reportedly a professor at a private college. The incident came to light when the domestic help arrived at the residence on Sunday morning. Despite repeated ringing of the doorbell and phone calls to Enakshi, there was no response.

Growing suspicious, the domestic help contacted neighbours, but none had a spare key to the flat. She then pushed the door, which opened, and entered the apartment. Inside, she found the couple’s young son asleep in one room, while Enakshi was lying unresponsive on a bed in another room. Shocked by the sight, she raised an alarm, drawing neighbours to the scene.

On information, the police rushed to the spot and took the woman to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. The victim’s family has also been informed.

The police have launched a search operation to trace Soumik Das. While initial suspicion points towards murder, officials said the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received.
