
Bhubaneswar, 26 April (H.S.): At least 12 people were injured, including eight in critical condition, after a bus carrying a wedding party overturned in Sonepur district of Odisha early Sunday morning.
The accident occurred near Kartang village under Binika police limits when the bus, carrying around 58 passengers from the groom’s side, lost control and overturned between 2:30 am and 3:00 am. The vehicle was returning from Boudh to Kamgaon in Sohela area of Bargarh district at the time of the incident. No fatalities have been reported.
All injured passengers were immediately shifted to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Several victims are currently undergoing treatment at Sonepur District Headquarters Hospital as well as Burla Hospital. Some of the injured have reportedly sustained fractures, including broken limbs.
Preliminary information suggest that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to lose control. However, the exact cause of the accident is yet to be officially confirmed.
On receiving information, Binika police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation. Authorities are examining all possible factors to determine the circumstances leading to the accident.
