Ballia,
April 26 (HS): During wee hours, a man reportedly stabbed his wife and
mother-in-law to death and critically wounded his father-in-law, according to
police. According to Ballia SP Omvir Singh, a domestic quarrel between the
accused and his wife is alleged to have triggered the attack, and three teams
have been created to apprehend the culprit, named as Amit Kumar Gupta. The
crime occurred at Hasanpur, near the Nagra police station, when Amit reportedly
went into his in-laws' house about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday through the roof and
cut the throats of his wife, Preeti Gupta (23), and mother-in-law, Sushila Devi
(55), according to police. When Amit's father-in-law, Antu Gupta (60),
attempted to interfere, he reportedly attacked him as well, leaving him
seriously injured.
Antu
Gupta was transported to the district hospital and then transferred to a trauma
center in Varanasi when his health worsened. According to authorities, Amit
attempted to strangle his sister-in-law when she tried to intervene before
leaving. After receiving a complaint from a family member, authorities opened a
murder investigation and sent the remains for post-mortem examination. The duo
had been married five years. Police said the woman returned to her parents'
house around a month ago.
