Guwahati, 26 April (HS). The search for the absconding driver continues following the horrific road accident in Guwahati’s Mathgharia area late Saturday night, which claimed the lives of three young women. The accident occurred when a speeding Swift car rammed into a stationary truck near Gate Hospital in Mathgharia.
The deceased have been identified as Pooja Saha of Krishnai in Goalpara, Akanksha Saikia of Sapehkati in Charaideo and Armina Ahmed alias Neha Khan.
On Sunday, the grieving father of Akanksha Saikia shared an emotional account, stating that he last spoke to his daughter around 11 pm. “She told me there was no electricity in her room and her phone battery was low. We wished each other good night and went to sleep,” he said. The family rushed to Guwahati after receiving news of the accident early in the morning.
Why Akanksha stepped out after asking her father to sleep remains a mystery. CCTV footage shows the car speeding from the Geetanagar side before crashing into the parked truck.
Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle, identified as Shamim Ahmed from Agartala, has been missing since the incident. Police said the car had been rented from a travel agency. His mobile phone remains switched off, complicating search efforts. Preliminary information suggests he was a close acquaintance of Neha Khan and a classmate of Pooja Saha.
Police have intensified their search to nab the absconding driver and further investigation into the case is underway.----------
