April 26 (HS): A gangster with a reward of Rs. 50,000 has been arrested in an
encounter between the police and cow smugglers on Sunday morning. The gangster
is injured by a bullet, while one of his companions escaped by dodging the
police. The injured criminal has been admitted to the district hospital and a
search is on for the absconding criminal. The Dalmau police team of the
district was conducting a search operation at Makanpur Tiraha to nab the
criminals. On Sunday morning, a suspicious container (UP21BN6720) was seen
coming. When the police signaled to stop, the driver increased the speed. When
the police laid siege near village Bhatni Haar near the ITBP camp, the
criminals, seeing themselves surrounded, started firing with pistols.
The
police also took a stand in self-defense and returned fire. A police bullet
struck the criminal, Najmuddin (resident of Bareilly), in the left leg, causing
him to collapse, bleeding profusely. The police immediately apprehended him,
while his accomplice, Mohammad Subin (resident of Moradabad), took advantage of
the darkness and bushes and escaped. The injured criminal was first referred to
CHC Dalmau and then, when his condition became serious, to the district
hospital.
The
police recovered an illegal pistol (315 bore), two empty cartridges and the
container used in the crime from the spot. The arrested accused Najmuddin has
serious cases registered against him under the Cow Slaughter Prevention Act,
Animal Cruelty and Arms Act in several districts including Raebareli and
Varanasi. He was wanted under the Gangster Act from Dalmau police station and
the police had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 on him. Now the police is
raiding possible hideouts in search of the absconding accused Subin.
Superintendent of Police Ravi Kumar said that the police have arrested the
criminal wanted in several districts after an encounter. His accomplice will
also be caught soon.
