Hooghly, 25 April (H.S.): Train services on the Bardhaman main line were briefly disrupted on Saturday morning after a technical snag in a local train caused inconvenience to passengers, railway sources said.

The down Bardhaman local developed a wheel jam, also known as brake binding, shortly after leaving Hooghly station. The train, which was scheduled to reach Chinsurah at 7:09 am, came to a halt en route and remained stranded for around 30 minutes.

As a result, passengers on board faced considerable inconvenience and were forced to wait until an alternative train arrived. When the down Bandel local reached Chinsurah station, stranded passengers disembarked and boarded it to continue their journey.

However, the Bandel local was also running around 15 minutes behind schedule, leading to an overall delay of nearly an hour for commuters on the stretch. The disruption caused frustration among passengers, especially amid the prevailing heat.

Railway officials later rectified the fault and the affected Bardhaman local resumed its journey towards Howrah. Eastern Railway PRO Shibram Maji said the cause of the technical issue would be examined.
