April 25 (HS): A rape suspect who escaped from a Prayagraj hospital was injured
during an encounter and apprehended by police in Pratapgarh district on
Saturday, an official said. During the exchange of fire, the accused received
gunshot wounds to both legs, and authorities discovered an illegal handgun in
his possession. According to ASP (West) Brijnandan Rai, the accused,
Jalaluddin, a resident of Rahwai village in the Kunda Kotwali police station
area, reportedly raped a two-year-old girl at a relative's home on the intervening
night of Sunday and Monday. Rai stated that he was detained after a rape case
was filed against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences
(POCSO) Act.
While
in police custody on Tuesday, the accused complained of sickness and was sent
to SRN Hospital in Prayagraj for treatment. He later escaped after eluding
constables Madan Sharma and Atul Kumar, who had been assigned to protect him,
according to the ASP. Acting
on a tip, a police squad led by Manikpur SHO Narendra Singh was conducting
checks near Karenti Tiraha on Friday night when the accused opened fire,
according to the officer.
Police
replied by hurting him on both legs before detaining him. Rai stated that he
was found in possession of a weapon and ammo produced in his nation. The
injured accused has been admitted to a medical college for treatment, and
judicial actions are now continuing, according to police.
