Hooghly, 25 April (H.S.):The BJP put up a strong show of strength in Goghat amid the ongoing election campaign, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh leading a रोड शो in support of the party’s candidate on Saturday.

According to party sources, Singh arrived at Betra by helicopter and proceeded in an open vehicle up to Badanganj bus stand, drawing large crowds of party workers and supporters along the route. The area reverberated with party flags, banners and slogans.

Addressing a gathering after the roadshow, he asserted that the BJP would form the government in West Bengal after May 4. He also said that “goonda raj” and corruption in the state would come to an end, remarks that have intensified the political sparring in the state.

Tight security arrangements were in place for the programme. Political observers believe that such high-voltage campaigning ahead of the polls is likely to further intensify the electoral contest in Goghat.
