Lucknow, April 22 (HS): BSP

president Mayawati ordered party members on Wednesday not to stage any rallies

or demonstrations over the women's reservation issue, stating that the party's

position on a distinct quota within the 33% quota for women from SC, ST, and

OBCs remained intact. In a post on X, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister

stated that the party continues to support women's reservation as of April 15,

and encouraged workers to notify cadres appropriately to avoid misunderstanding

on the topic. However, she stated that no rally or protest should be staged on

this issue in accordance with party discipline.

On April 15, Mayawati stated that while her party favors 33% reservation for

women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, it should include a separate quota

for women from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes.

She voiced concern that without such a sub-quota, women from these groups would

not have appropriate representation. Mayawati also restated the party's demand

for 50% reservation for women in accordance to their population, claiming that

other political parties were unable to accept it owing to self-interest and

compulsions. Mayawati also stated in her Wednesday post that she will be

traveling to Delhi for party-related business.

She instructed workers to enhance the party organization, broaden its

support base, and emphasize the development and public welfare efforts carried

out during the BSP government's tenure in Uttar Pradesh as they prepare for the

approaching elections.

Mayawati further stated that workers should remind the public that numerous key

infrastructure projects, including expressways and the Noida airport, were

conceptualized during the BSP's tenure and might have been finished sooner if

not for claimed roadblocks erected by the then-Congress-led national

government. She argued that only the BSP's government, guided by the basis of

rule of law, can provide balanced growth, advancement for all parts of society,

and improved peace and order in the state.
