Guwahati, 22 April (HS): In the sensational Zubeen Garg murder case, Anita Mahanta, wife of the prime accused Shyamakanu Mahanta, has issued her first reaction, asserting that her husband is innocent and has been falsely implicated in the case.
Speaking to the media outside the court of the Special Judge, Anita Mahanta stated that Zubeen Garg was not a person who could be forced to do anything against his will. She questioned whether it was Shyamakanu’s fault that Zubeen was taken to the North East Festival to showcase Assamese culture on a global platform.
She further said that Zubeen Garg was accommodated in one of the best hotels in Singapore, located just 50 metres from a world-class hospital. According to her, Shyamkanu had no information about Zubeen attending a yacht party, and at that time, Shyamakanu Mahanta was around 50 kilometres away attending another event.
Maintaining that an innocent person has been kept in Jail for a prolonged period, she added that such injustice would also hurt the soul of Zubeen Garg.
Notably, the bail plea of prime accused Shyamakanu Mahanta is scheduled for hearing today. He has engaged a Guwahati-based counsel for the plea, whereas earlier the case was represented by Kolkata-based advocate Rajdeep Banerjee.------------
