East Medinipur, 22 April (H.S.): Authorities have imposed Section 163 in parts of East Medinipur ahead of the upcoming phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, in a bid to maintain law and order and ensure peaceful polling.
According to reports, the restrictions have been enforced as a preventive measure to curb any untoward incidents during the sensitive pre-poll period. Under Section 163, movement and assembly of people are regulated, and certain activities are restricted to avoid potential disturbances.
Officials said the step has been taken considering the tense political atmosphere in the district. Security has been tightened, and police along with central forces have been deployed in sensitive areas to monitor the situation closely.
The administration has urged residents to comply with the restrictions and cooperate with authorities to ensure smooth and fair elections. Violations of the order may invite strict legal action.
The move comes amid heightened political activities and campaigning in the region, with authorities focusing on preventing clashes and maintaining peace during the electoral process.
