North 24 Parganas, 22 April (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday addressed a public rally in Amdanga, launching a sharp attack on the Election Commission and opposition parties amid the ongoing Assembly election campaign.

Speaking at the rally, Banerjee questioned the role of officials appointed by the Election Commission and urged them to function in a fair and independent manner. She stressed that administrative officers must remain neutral and work in the interest of the people rather than favoring any political party.

The Chief Minister alleged that attempts are being made to influence the electoral process by bringing in “outsiders,” but asserted that the people of Bengal would resist any such efforts through democratic means.

Highlighting her government’s work, Banerjee said that several welfare schemes have been implemented in the state and development initiatives will continue in the future. She also appealed to voters to maintain peace and not fall prey to provocation.

Taking aim at the opposition, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), she accused them of trying to create fear and confusion ahead of the polls. She expressed confidence that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) enjoys strong public support and will perform well in the elections.

Concluding her speech, Banerjee urged people to exercise their democratic rights and ensure peaceful voting.
