
Imphal, 22 April (HS): Manipur Police have intensified their crackdown on individuals involved in violent activities and insurgency, leading to the arrest of four persons from different parts of the state.
According to an official statement issued by the Manipur Police Headquarters on Wednesday, two residents of Tingri Makha Leikai were arrested on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in violent incidents in Imphal East district. The accused reportedly targeted security forces by burning tyres and pelting stones using slingshots at the Koirengei crossing along National Highway-02 (Imphal-Dimapur Road).
The arrested individuals have been identified as Thoudam Gojendra Singh and Pukhrambam Imo Chinglemba. Notably, Thoudam Gojendra Singh is stated to be a personnel of Manipur Police. Necessary legal action has been initiated against both.
In a separate operation conducted, security forces apprehended two insurgent cadres from the general area of T. Bongmol under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district. The arrested militants have been identified as PREPAK (Pro) rebel Salam Yaima Meitei (19) from Phougakchao Ikhai in Bishnupur district and PLA rebel Wakrambam Rahul Meitei alias Malemngamba (18) from Changangei Awang Leikai in Imphal West district.
The statement further noted that security forces continued search operations and domination exercises in fringe and vulnerable areas across multiple districts. A total of 114 checkpoints were set up across hill and valley regions and eight individuals were detained for violating the law. Further legal proceedings are underway.-----------
