Chandigarh, 22 April (H.S.): Tension gripped Burail Jail on Tuesday when two inmates got into

a violent clash inside the premises. The situation escalated quickly, leading

to a physical fight that continued for some time before jail authorities

intervened. Police and security personnel managed to separate the two after

considerable effort. One of the inmates was seriously injured and was

immediately shifted to the Government Hospital in Sector 32 for treatment.

According to official information, the injured

inmate has been identified as Vikas, who is reportedly linked to the Lawrence

gang, as per police sources. The other inmate involved in the incident has been

identified as Himanshu. Preliminary investigation suggests that both had an

ongoing personal rivalry, which suddenly turned violent on Tuesday.

Sources revealed that the two inmates had gone

to the jail dispensary for a routine medical check-up and medication. During

their visit, a minor argument broke out between them, which quickly escalated

into a heated exchange. Within minutes, the situation went out of control,

leading to pushing, scuffling, and eventually a full-blown physical fight.

As soon as the incident was reported, jail

police and security staff rushed to the spot and brought the situation under

control. The injured inmate, Vikas, was initially given first aid inside the

jail premises. However, due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was referred

to the hospital for further treatment.

Police

officials have inspected the scene and initiated a detailed inquiry into the

incident. Statements of jail staff and other inmates are being recorded.

Authorities are also investigating the root cause of the long-standing enmity

between the two inmates to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the

future.
