Kolkata, 22 April (H.S.): Tensions escalated in West Bengal’s election-bound atmosphere after a BJP candidate staged a demonstration outside a local police station, alleging harassment and bias by the administration.
According to reports, the protest was held after the candidate and party workers accused the police of acting in a partisan manner and targeting BJP supporters. The demonstration saw slogans being raised against the police, with party workers demanding fair treatment and immediate action on their complaints.
The BJP candidate claimed that their supporters were being intimidated ahead of the elections and that the police were not taking appropriate action on incidents involving opposition workers. Party leaders present at the protest also echoed similar concerns, alleging that the administration was working under political pressure.
Police officials, however, intervened to control the situation and prevent any escalation. They assured that the matter would be looked into as per law and urged protesters to maintain peace.
The incident highlights the growing political tension in the state ahead of polling, with allegations and counter-allegations continuing between rival parties.
