Kolkata, 22 April (H.S.) : Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, strongly criticising Shah’s reported “Ei Didi” remark directed at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Addressing a public rally at Gardoani Mollar Chak near an HP petrol pump in Jaynagar, Banerjee said the comment reflected the Bharatiya Janata Party’s attitude towards women.
He said that the Union Home Minister had addressed the state’s elected woman Chief Minister in a disrespectful manner despite her being at least a decade older than him. Banerjee also recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s earlier “O Didi” remark during the previous Assembly elections.
Referring to the BJP’s performance in the last Assembly polls, Banerjee said the party had won 77 seats then and claimed it would not cross 50 seats this time.
Taking a swipe at Modi and Shah, he also advised them to drink more water in the summer heat. He alleged that the BJP wanted to snatch away people’s rights and said the people of West Bengal would give a democratic reply through the ballot box.
Banerjee also greeted the people of South 24 Parganas and expressed confidence that voters in the district would hand the BJP a decisive defeat.
Responding to why South 24 Parganas votes in the final phase, Banerjee said the people of the district would deliver the final verdict in the election.
