
Kolkata, 21 April (H.S.): Lok Bhavan, West Bengal, has announced the launch of a 24×7 citizen helpline aimed at ensuring that the upcoming Assembly elections in the state are conducted in a free, peaceful and fear-free atmosphere.
According to a press release issued on behalf of Governor R.N. Ravi, several public representatives and citizens have recently expressed serious concerns over the possibility of violence before and after the elections. Many also referred to incidents during previous polls involving violence, obstruction of voting rights, physical assaults and harassment of family members.
Lok Bhavan said that in view of the history of widespread violence during earlier elections in the state, the Election Commission of India has put in place strict security measures to ensure a fair electoral process. As part of this effort, the special helpline has been launched to assist citizens and ensure prompt redressal of complaints.
The release stated that the main objective of the initiative is to enable every voter to participate in the democratic process without fear or pressure. The helpline will facilitate registration of complaints, provide immediate assistance and offer institutional guidance wherever required.
Lok Bhavan assured that all complaints and representations received would be handled with sensitivity and complete confidentiality.
Appealing to voters, it urged citizens to participate enthusiastically in the festival of democracy and exercise their franchise.
