Mumbai, 21 Apr (HS): Senior BJP leader, former MP

and renowned paediatrician from Latur, Dr Gopalrao Patil, passed away on

Tuesday morning at a hospital in Latur. He was hospitalised to Gallaxy Hospital

for age-related health issues. He was 94. The last rotes will be performed at

Sant Tukaram National Model School Ground at 5 pm. Dr Patil was Founder President

of Shiva Chhatrapati Education Society. He is survived by his wife Shantabai, a

son and three daughters.

Born on October 3, 1931 ar Kavatha village of Uramga

tehsil in Dharashiv (Earlier Osmanabad) district, Dr Patil obtained MBBS and

DCH degrees from Osmania University, He practiced medicine for a long period in

Latur. He started Latur branch of Indian Paediatric Association and was elected

its first President. He was honoured with the Best Doctor Parlimantarian Award

in 1998. He was Rajya Sabha member from 1994 to 2000, and was a member of

various parliamentary committees. He also contested election against former

union minister Shivraj Patil Chakurkar. A ghazal lover Dr Patil has in-depth

knowledge of Marathi, Hindi, English, Urdu, Sanskrit and French languages.
