Guwahati, 02 April (HS): Amid the peak of the ongoing election campaign in Assam, BJP spokesperson Kishor Kumar Bhattacharya claimed that voters in the state have already made up their minds in favor of the BJP-led alliance, rejecting the opposition.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s state headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, Bhattacharya said that the clear policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies, along with their disciplined campaign and commitment to safeguarding the rights and supremacy of indigenous people of Assam, have led voters to a decisive conclusion. He asserted that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is set to form the government in the state for a third consecutive term with a record mandate.

He criticized the opposition alliance, stating that it was formed hastily through reluctant compromises and suffers from deep ideological differences. Raising questions over the alliance’s direction, he asked whether it would follow the regional ideals of Assam Jatiya Parishad or succumb to what he termed as the appeasement politics of the Indian National Congress.

Bhattacharya further alleged that the opposition has failed to present even a minimum common programme due to internal contradictions, weakening its role in the electoral battle. In contrast, he emphasized that BJP’s ideological framework leaves no room for appeasement politics and remains committed to preserving India’s ancient civilizational heritage and protecting indigenous communities.

Highlighting the party’s track record, he said that over the past decade, consistent efforts to protect language, culture and indigenous identity have strengthened public trust. He added that BJP’s commitment is clearly reflected in its manifesto, which includes 31 key pledges.

These promises include strict implementation of the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950, reclaiming encroached land from illegal settlers, ensuring land rights under Mission Basundhara, freeing encroached land of cultural and religious institutions under the Assam Darshan scheme, strengthening the Satra Commission, reconstruction of Madhupur Satra and the historic Talatal Ghar, implementation of a Uniform Civil Code excluding Sixth Schedule areas and tribal communities, and enacting strict laws to curb “love jihad”.

He concluded that these commitments have instilled confidence among voters, making it increasingly evident even before polling that the NDA is poised to return to power in Assam, while the opposition appears to have conceded defeat even before the final contest.----------
