
Bhubaneswar, 19 April (H.S.): Amid intense heatwave conditions prevailing across Odisha, district administrations of Angul, Khordha, and Deogarh have announced the closure of all government and private schools along with Anganwadi centres as a precautionary measure to safeguard students and staff.
According to official orders issued by the respective District Collectors, all educational institutions in Khordha and Deogarh will remain closed from April 20 to April 23, 2026. In Angul, schools and Anganwadi centres will remain closed from April 20 to April 22, 2026.
The district administrations have directed education officials to strictly implement the orders, prioritising the health and safety of students, teachers, and staff amid rising temperatures.
Authorities have further stated that if any examinations are scheduled during this period, they should be conducted in the morning hours to avoid exposure to peak afternoon heat.
The decision comes in response to severe heatwave conditions across the state, with temperatures soaring significantly and the India Meteorological Department issuing heat-related alerts.
Parents and students have been advised to remain hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak hours, and take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.
