Guwahati, 19 April (HS): Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, on Sunday expressed disagreement with remarks made by Akhil Gogoi regarding lack of support from certain communities.
Saikia said he does not endorse Gogoi’s statement that the party failed to secure the backing of Bengali-speaking people, Brahmins, tea tribes, beneficiaries and women. He asserted that the Congress has, in fact, received support from several of these sections, including Brahmins and beneficiaries.
The Congress leader emphasized that such generalizations do not reflect the ground reality and maintained that the party continues to enjoy backing from diverse communities across the state.----------
