
Jammu, 19 April (H.S.): The case pertains to FIR No. 97/2020 under Sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act of Police Station Chenani, wherein on 09-09-2020, during naka checking at Motor Shed on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, the police team intercepted a Mahindra Bolero bearing registration No. HP10HJ-2556 coming from Srinagar side.
During checking, the vehicle was found loaded with apple boxes. However, upon thorough inspection, a concealed cabin was detected inside the vehicle. From the hidden compartment, 10 plastic gunny bags containing approximately 175 kilograms of poppy straw were recovered, leading to the registration of the case and initiation of investigation.
A prompt investigation ensured that all legal formalities were completed and the charge-sheet was filed before the Hon’ble Court.
After the due course of trial, the Hon’ble Additional District & Sessions Judge, Udhampur, convicted both the inter-state drug peddlers Jaspreet Singh son of Nichhatar Singh of Kamke Kallan, Tehsil Jagraon, District Ludhiana and Sandeep Singh son of Chamkar Singh of Pukwala, Tehsil Rajpura, District Ludhiana under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.
The Hon’ble Court sentenced both convicts to 10 years rigorous imprisonment each and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh each. In default of payment of the fine, they shall undergo an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment.
