Thiruvananthapuram, 13 April (H.S.):
Kerala is set to experience a continuation of intense summer heat over the coming days, with weather authorities warning that temperatures will remain significantly above normal across much of the state.
According to the latest report from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), daytime temperatures in at least ten districts are expected to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above seasonal averages until April 14. The alert indicates that several regions could witness uncomfortable and potentially hazardous weather conditions.
Districts including Palakkad, Kollam, Kozhikode, and Kasaragod are likely to record maximum temperatures of up to 38°C. Meanwhile, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Kannur may see temperatures reaching around 37°C, while Pathanamthitta is expected to touch approximately 36°C.
Notably, Palakkad recorded a high of 40°C on the previous day, underlining the severity of the ongoing heatwave.
In addition to the rising temperatures, the presence of high humidity levels in the atmosphere is expected to exacerbate discomfort, particularly in lowland and coastal regions. Only hilly areas are likely to experience relatively milder conditions.
Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution, especially during peak daytime hours. Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays can lead to sunburn, skin ailments, eye-related issues, and other health complications.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight for extended periods, and take necessary precautions to safeguard their health as the heatwave continues to intensify across the state.
