Hooghly, 13 April (H.S.): Amid the ongoing Assembly election process, the election affidavit of BJP candidate Bhaskar Bhattacharya from the Serampore constituency has come into focus, highlighting a profile marked by simplicity, transparency, and balance. A native of Serampore, Bhattacharya is known for his long career as an advocate and his experience in the corporate sector.

Academically, Bhattacharya presents a strong background. He holds a B.Com (Honours) degree from Serampore College, an LLB from Surendranath Law College, and a postgraduate diploma in Business Management from Kolkata. His tenure as an Independent Director at Power Finance Corporation Limited further reflects his administrative and financial expertise.

According to the affidavit, his income has seen fluctuations over the past few years but remains overall stable. His annual income rose from around ₹3 lakh in 2020–21 to approximately ₹19.5 lakh in 2023–24, before slightly declining to about ₹16 lakh in 2024–25. His wife, Suparna Bhattacharya, has a limited income, indicating a modest, middle-class household profile.

In terms of assets, Bhattacharya has declared total assets of approximately ₹1.53 crore, including around ₹92 lakh in movable assets and about ₹61 lakh in immovable assets. His movable assets include bank deposits, mutual fund investments, a private vehicle, and a small amount of gold. His immovable assets primarily consist of a residential flat and a commercial unit in Serampore.

On the liabilities front, he has an outstanding car loan of around ₹96,000, with no other government or private dues pending. This reflects a relatively clean and disciplined financial record.

As per the affidavit, there is only one minor pending case registered under the Police Act, with no charges framed and no conviction to date.

Overall, Bhaskar Bhattacharya’s affidavit presents the image of a candidate with a clean record, balanced financial standing, and a grounded, professional background. How this profile resonates with voters in Serampore will become clear as the electoral contest unfolds.
