Chennai, 13 April (H.S.):Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss was shifted to Chennai on Monday for advanced medical care after he fainted during an election campaign event in Salem district, triggering concern among party workers and supporters.
He is currently undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, where a team of senior doctors is closely monitoring his condition. Hospital sources said his health remains stable and under control.
The veteran leader was first rushed to a private hospital in Salem immediately after the incident and later moved to another facility for further assessment. Doctors attributed the episode to fatigue and fluctuations in blood pressure, likely caused by continuous campaigning and age-related factors.
Medical experts have advised that Ramadoss remain under observation for at least 24 hours and take complete rest before resuming public activities. Party leaders expressed optimism about his recovery, stating that he is responding well to treatment.
The incident occurred on Sunday after Ramadoss addressed a public meeting at Pallapatti in support of Salem West constituency candidate and sitting MLA Arul. Shortly after stepping down from the stage, he collapsed, briefly causing panic at the venue.
His daughter, Dr. Srikanti, along with party members, immediately intervened and ensured he was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency care. The swift response helped stabilise his condition.
The development comes amid ongoing internal differences within the PMK, particularly between Ramadoss and his son Anbumani Ramadoss, over leadership and campaign strategy, drawing significant political attention ahead of the Assembly elections.
