New Delhi, 11 April (H.S.):

The Delhi government released the draft of the ‘Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2026’ today, inviting public feedback until May 11. The new policy promises substantial subsidies and remains effective till 2030 post-implementation.

According to the Delhi Transport Department, the policy’s primary goal is to purify Delhi’s air and incentivise citizens to opt for electric vehicles over petrol-diesel ones. To render EV purchases highly affordable, the government has proposed tiered annual subsidies disbursed directly via DBT into buyers’ bank accounts.

Incentives Breakdown

For electric two-wheelers (scooters/bikes) registered from the incentive notification date: Year 1 offers ₹10,000 (up to ₹30,000 max), Year 2 ₹6,600+ (up to ₹20,000 max), Year 3 ₹3,300+ (up to ₹10,000 max). Ex-factory price must not exceed ₹2.25 lakh.

Electric autos (three-wheelers) qualify for ₹50,000 (Year 1), ₹40,000 (Year 2), and ₹30,000 (Year 3). E-trucks (goods carriers) receive heftier aid: ₹1 lakh (Year 1), ₹75,000 (Year 2), up to ₹2.50 lakh (Year 3).

Scrappage Boost

Scrapped petrol-diesel cars traded for new EVs earn an extra ₹1 lakh rebate; two-wheelers ₹10,000, old autos ₹25,000, light trucks ₹50,000. EVs up to ₹30 lakh enjoy 100% road tax and registration fee waivers till March 31, 2030—no exemptions for pricier models registered in Delhi-NCR.

Delhi Transco Limited (DTL) is the nodal agency to bolster the EV ecosystem. All vehicle dealers must install public charging stations at showrooms; societies and public spots get ‘single window’ clearance.

Phased Mandates

To slash pollution: From January 1, 2027, only electric three-wheelers; April 1, 2028 onwards, electric two-wheelers. By March 31, 2030, schools must convert 30% buses to EVs. All new/leased government vehicles henceforth: electric only.

Details are uploaded on the Transport Department/GNCTD website. Feedback invited till May 11, 2026 via evpolicy2026@gmail.com or Joint Commissioner (EV), Transport Department, 5/9 Underhill Road, Delhi 110054—email/post only, no office visits.

Delhi’s prior EV policy launched August 2020, expired 2023 but extended. The Air Quality Management Commission’s latest Supreme Court report flags vehicular emissions as Delhi-NCR’s top AQI culprit.
