Guwahati, 11 April (HS): The Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2026 has drawn global attention, with 12 international delegates from seven countries witnessing the scale, precision and vibrancy of India’s electoral process under the Election Commission of India’s International Election Visitors’ Programme (IEVP) 2026.

Delegates from Angola, Benin, Croatia, Egypt, Mexico, Portugal and Sri Lanka described the experience as a “true festival of democracy,” expressing admiration for the high voter turnout, meticulous planning and seamless execution of the polls. They observed various stages of the election process, including dispatch and distribution centres, where polling teams and materials were managed through structured logistics and standard operating procedures.

During their two-day visit to Assam from April 8 to 9, the delegates interacted with the Chief Electoral Officer and State Police Nodal Officer to understand the overall conduct of elections and security arrangements. They also visited CCTV control rooms monitoring 100 percent webcasting of polling stations, terming it a strong pillar of transparency.

At polling stations in Kamrup and Kamrup Metro districts, the delegates witnessed mock polls and the live voting process. They appreciated the inclusive arrangements such as ramps, wheelchairs, volunteers, crèche facilities and dedicated polling stations managed by women and persons with disabilities.

Praising the enthusiasm of voters, Mr. Branimir Farkas of Croatia said the Indian voting process is “a true festival of democracy for the whole world,” highlighting the remarkable public participation. Similarly, Dr. Miguel Jesus Ferreira Da Silva of Portugal expressed satisfaction over the peaceful, free and fair conduct of elections, backed by strong logistical planning.

The visiting teams also toured district-level media monitoring centres and took part in plantation drives at polling stations, acknowledging the eco-friendly initiatives adopted during the elections. Mr. Erick Jean-Marie Zinsou of Benin lauded the well-organised process and the training of personnel at every stage.

The delegates also availed health check-up facilities at polling stations and commended the comprehensive arrangements ensuring voter convenience and safety.

Impressed by the smooth conduct of polling and significant voter turnout, the delegates expressed gratitude to the Election Commission of India and the state election machinery for the opportunity to witness the election process.
