
Agartala, 06 March (HS): The nine-day budget session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly will commence on March 13 and continue until March 25, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced on Friday.
The minister informed that the session has been formally summoned by Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu. The schedule and agenda for the session were finalised during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), chaired by Speaker-in-Charge Ram Prasad Paul.
Among those present in the meeting were ministers and legislators including Sushanta Chowdhury, Animesh Debbarma, Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, Chief Whip Kalyan Saha Roy, along with Rampada Jamatia and Birajit Sinha.
Proceedings on the first day will begin with the Governor’s address to the House. Members will also pay obituary tributes to former Speaker Biswabandhu Sen before the Assembly adjourns for the day.
The state budget for the financial year 2026–27 will be presented on March 16 by Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy. On the same day, the revised estimates for the 2025–26 fiscal will also be laid in the House, followed by the minister’s budget speech.
During the session, three key pieces of legislation are likely to be introduced, including the Tripura University of Health Sciences Bill, a proposal concerning the establishment of a Technical University and a Women’s University Bill.
Discussion on the Governor’s address will begin from the third day and continue for two days. Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury is scheduled to speak on the budget on March 19, while further deliberations will take place on March 20, 23 and 24.
The budget session is slated to conclude on March 25 with the passage of the state budget after detailed debate in the House. Nath said the BAC ensured adequate time for discussions and finalised the timetable with the consensus of all members.---------------
