
Kolkata, 07 March (H.S.) : The Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police has arrested two alleged arms smugglers from Bihar and recovered a carbine and three pistols along with several empty magazines during a raid in West Midnapore district.
According to STF Superintendent of Police and IPS officer Indrajit Sarkar, the operation was carried out late on Friday following specific intelligence inputs. Acting on the information, an STF team conducted a raid near Kayrapur under Basudebpur Police Station limits.
During the operation, two individuals were apprehended and identified as Alok Kumar of Dhobitola village and Prem Kumar of Mirjapur village, both residents of Munger district in Bihar.
A search of their possession led to the recovery of one nine-millimetre carbine with two empty magazines and three seven-millimetre pistols along with six empty magazines. All the weapons and magazines were seized by the STF team.
In connection with the incident, a case has been registered at the STF headquarters police station under relevant sections of the Arms Act. Police said further investigation is underway to determine the intended destination of the weapons and to identify any larger network involved in the smuggling operation.
