Siliguri, 06 March (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday took a dig at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her sit-in protest in Kolkata against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) issue.

Speaking to reporters after arriving at Bagdogra Airport, Union Minister and BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar said the chief minister was “practising from now.” He remarked that the BJP would form the government in West Bengal in the future and Banerjee would then have to stage protests as the Leader of the Opposition, so it was good that she was getting some practice.

Responding to a question on the sudden resignation of Governor C.V. Ananda Bose, Majumdar said the governor had stepped down due to health reasons. He added that although a new governor has been appointed, it remains to be seen whether the appointment will be permanent.

Majumdar also said that the Constitution does not mandate that the Union Home Ministry must consult the chief minister before appointing a governor.

Notably, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had on Thursday criticised the central government over the governor’s resignation in a post on social media platform X.
