(HS): As many as 51 sheep and goats died after consuming water from a temporary
farm pond in Pandhari Masmapur in Anjaingaon Surji Rehsil of Amvarati district.
The goad raring was being practiced by Masum Mahila Gat, a Self-Help Group of Women.
After grazing near Shingmodi River, a farmer, Shrikant Ruchke, allowed them to
drink water from pond in his farm.
Within minutes sheep
started collapsing. Before the women could get help from a veterinary doctor,
51 of them died. The group had taken loan of about Rs 6 lakh from Central Bank
of India to start the goat and sheep raring business. The women have lodged a complaint
against the pond owner and demanded compensation.
The expert in
forensic sciences were summoned to determine the exact cause of the deaths.
