Amravati, 05 Mar

(HS): As many as 51 sheep and goats died after consuming water from a temporary

farm pond in Pandhari Masmapur in Anjaingaon Surji Rehsil of Amvarati district.

The goad raring was being practiced by Masum Mahila Gat, a Self-Help Group of Women.

After grazing near Shingmodi River, a farmer, Shrikant Ruchke, allowed them to

drink water from pond in his farm.

Within minutes sheep

started collapsing. Before the women could get help from a veterinary doctor,

51 of them died. The group had taken loan of about Rs 6 lakh from Central Bank

of India to start the goat and sheep raring business. The women have lodged a complaint

against the pond owner and demanded compensation.

The expert in

forensic sciences were summoned to determine the exact cause of the deaths.
