Gorakhpur,

05 March (HS): Police reported on Thursday that a 22-year-old MBBS student at

BRD Medical College was killed after a speeding SUV allegedly slammed his bike

on an overbridge here. On Wednesday night, Akash Pandey, a third-year medical

student, was hit by a speeding black Toyota Fortuner on the Mohaddipur-Kauwabagh

Overbridge. Pandey was thrown roughly 15 yards by the crash. He collided with

the overbridge's railing and stayed hanging for nearly 30 minutes until police

arrived. Passers-by notified the cops, who transported him to the district

hospital, where physicians proclaimed him deceased. Pandey, a resident of Sant

Kabir Nagar, went to a friend's house on Wednesday to celebrate Holi.

The

event occurred while he was returning to his accommodation around 9.30 p.m.

after dinner. The SUV driver, identified as property dealer Golden Sahni, first

left the scene with the car but was apprehended. Abhinav Tyagi, Additional

Superintendent of Police (City), stated that Sahni has been charged with

culpable homicide not amounting to murder and other related provisions. The

offender has been apprehended, and the police has stated that harsh action

would be taken against him.
