05 March (HS): Police reported on Thursday that a 22-year-old MBBS student at
BRD Medical College was killed after a speeding SUV allegedly slammed his bike
on an overbridge here. On Wednesday night, Akash Pandey, a third-year medical
student, was hit by a speeding black Toyota Fortuner on the Mohaddipur-Kauwabagh
Overbridge. Pandey was thrown roughly 15 yards by the crash. He collided with
the overbridge's railing and stayed hanging for nearly 30 minutes until police
arrived. Passers-by notified the cops, who transported him to the district
hospital, where physicians proclaimed him deceased. Pandey, a resident of Sant
Kabir Nagar, went to a friend's house on Wednesday to celebrate Holi.
The
event occurred while he was returning to his accommodation around 9.30 p.m.
after dinner. The SUV driver, identified as property dealer Golden Sahni, first
left the scene with the car but was apprehended. Abhinav Tyagi, Additional
Superintendent of Police (City), stated that Sahni has been charged with
culpable homicide not amounting to murder and other related provisions. The
offender has been apprehended, and the police has stated that harsh action
would be taken against him.
