Kollam, 31 March (H.S.):Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on opposition forces, asserting that the people of the state would decisively reject what he termed as “opportunistic politics” in the ongoing Assembly election.
Addressing an election rally in Kottarakkara, the Chief Minister inaugurated the campaign of Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate K. N. Balagopal and expressed confidence in a strong electoral mandate for the ruling front.
Vijayan said that attempts to challenge the LDF by bringing together “embodiments of opportunism” were nothing more than a misplaced illusion, which time itself would disprove. His remarks were widely seen as a reference to the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Aisha Potty, who had previously been associated with the CPI(M).
Highlighting the achievements of the LDF government, the Chief Minister said that the administration had functioned in close coordination with the people over the past years. He noted that this unity and collective strength had enabled Kerala to achieve what once seemed impossible.
Vijayan emphasized that the LDF was once again approaching the electorate with the same sense of trust and confidence. He asserted that there was no doubt that the people stand firmly with the Left.
Praising Balagopal, Vijayan described him as a capable and efficient Finance Minister who had handled the state’s financial affairs with distinction. He added that Balagopal’s candidature had already received overwhelming acceptance among voters in Kottarakkara.
Taking a swipe at the opposition, the Chief Minister said rival candidates were in a “pathetic condition” and lacked both credibility and public support, expressing confidence that the LDF would secure a decisive victory in the constituency.
