Kolkata, 31 March (H.S.): Political tensions escalated in West Bengal on Tuesday as Trinamool Congress (TMC)-backed Booth Level Officers (BLOs) staged a protest outside the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office over alleged irregularities involving Form-6 during the ongoing election process.
A day earlier, Abhishek Banerjee had made serious allegations, claiming that voters from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh were being added to the state’s electoral rolls through Form-6 applications. The issue resurfaced on Tuesday, triggering unrest at the CEO office premises.
According to the protesters, large numbers of Form-6 documents were being brought in bags, raising concerns over possible manipulation of the voter list. TMC-backed BLOs gathered in protest from the morning, demanding transparency and accountability in the process.
Police attempted to control the situation, leading to scuffles between security personnel and the demonstrators. Protesters also alleged that they were attacked by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters during the agitation.
The situation at the CEO office turned tense, with political accusations and counter-accusations intensifying amid the ongoing election climate.
