(HS): A 21-year-old college student reportedly committed suicide by jumping
from the 28th floor of her residential society in Sector 32 here, police said
on Monday. According to authorities, no suicide note was found at the scene;
nevertheless, family members said that she had been psychologically troubled
for some time.
The
tragedy occurred on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, when Arpita,
a D-Block tenant in Sector 32, leaped from the building. She was a second-year
Bachelor of Technology student from a college in Punjab who had returned to
Noida two days before to the event. A police officer said that no suicide note
was found at the scene.
Police
were told by family members that she had become psychologically disturbed after
arriving home. On the night of the event, she allegedly leaped from her
28th-floor apartment balcony. The society's security guard observed her and
contacted the family, who then informed the police. The woman's father is a
businessman. According to authorities, the family is from Basti, Uttar Pradesh,
and is now staying in Sector 32. Following the completion of the inquest
proceedings, the corpse was transferred for post-mortem examination. The police
said that further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile,
a 40-year-old man allegedly committed suicide on Monday by falling from the top
of a high-rise building in the Rajnagar Extension neighborhood, according to
police. Raghukul Tilak, a resident of a 12th-floor home in Blue Moon Society in
the Nand Gram neighborhood, worked for a logistics firm situated in Noida and
linked to Dubai, according to authorities. Nand Gram Assistant Commissioner of
Police Jiauddin Ahmed informed that Tilak married five years ago but has been
living alone for the last three years due to a disagreement with his wife. The
pair legally split six months ago, he claimed, and the exact floor from which
he plunged is unknown.
According
to the police, Tilak's father told them he was despondent. Despite his parents'
persistent demands to remarry, he resisted. Police are reviewing CCTV video
from the society and other buildings to determine the order of events. The ACP
stated that the body had been submitted for a postmortem examination.
